Audience Theory 2
Audience Theory 2
For anti-social behaviour, I don't think social media is fully social media. I think anti-social behaviours depend on the person and factors that also effect the person. Social media is very distracting and can possibly cause anti-social behaviour because the person would rather want to go on their social media rather than going outside and that does make sense but it shouldn't be used as a scapegoat as there are other underlying causes that are more prominent and impactful but people sweep them under the rug and blame social media as everyone has it and is easily accessible so it's relatable for mostly everyone making it easier to blame things on it.
2) I do agree that social media and the internet are able to influence young people. This is shown in when social media trends occur, young people tend to repeat or bring up the video that caused the trend. Also some young people do the social trend such as The Kylie Jenner challenge in which some people ere doing the trend as it was seen as cool or fun to thus affecting and influencing young people.
3) Examples of Moral Panics:
Bath salts
Toxins
Gay Recruitment
War on Christmas
Back masking
The media can be blamed for these moral panics as the media tends to blow things out of proportion in order to get more people to watch or focus on it. The concern society can sometimes range from ridiculous from understandable however on the list some of them appear to sound foolish and stupid.
4) The paper evaluates arguments offered for thing like online child safety, digital privacy, and cyber security.
5) Through things such as experiments, coping strategies and societal learning rather than regulation. This would benefit things such like learning opportunities for people who are in school or universities rather than it being regulated and them going through a long process in order to access the information prior to the regulation.
6) Although the internet could be argued that it should be regulated which I agree with to an extent but would be futile and useless as the internet is very colossal and regulating parts of it would be pointless as someone could copy the information and make something similar to the thing banned so the person would still be able to access the information.
7) The cultivation theory suggest that the person using the digital media can cause his perspectives and effect which will slowly result in gradual changes which are built up long term. The digital media such as news is causing a fearful population as the news tend blow things out of proportion in order for the viewer to focus or watch it resulting on the person buying benefiting the media corporation leading them to increase the rate of how they make the danger seem problematic.
8) The internet is something that should be worried about in society but since the internet has become such an integral part of society, it is used everywhere e.g entertainment, education, work and research. This means that it would be hard to distance the internet and society and event the impacts of heavy use of internet. In some areas in the world, heavy use of the internet seems to appear as normal which means that it would be only a short amount of time till it becomes normal. Also, heavy use of internet seems to not be a big deal and if someone is truly addicted to he internet it would be hard for them to get help as heavy internet isn't something that is a disease or easily understandable or curable.
