MIGRAIN: January assessment learner response

1) WWW: This is frustrating because you actually raise some interesting points in Q2 + Q3 but simply don't have the knowledge or theory to back it up. This needs to be a serous wake-up call if you intend to complete the two-year A Level and achieve any kind of grade.

EBI: Did you complete the original work to any kind of standard? Revise  ownership +  control, PSB, audience theory. Cultivation theory is in the question... you don't mention it.

2) In Q1 I didn't include the strategies in which businesses can maintain control and maximise profits but rather made my own points which the question didn't ask.

In Q2 I didn't include an in depth argument for the for and against for both sides which wouldn't allow me to answer the question fully.

In Q3 I didn't not include and explain Cultivation theory.

3) On a scale of 10, my preparation and revision for this test was somewhere around 1-2.

4) I did not talk about 3 different strategies for this question .

5) I did not talk about the advantages and disadvantages for BBC and commercial broadcasters.

6) The Hypodermic needle theory suggests the media controls or influences the audiences. I do agree with this question to an extent. The audience are not completely influenced by the media that they consume. Some factors such as age can influence the person consuming the media for example things such as violent games or TV shows can affect a young person e.g early teens or younger. For example, some people argue that the Columbine shooters were affected or influenced by listening to Marilyn Manson however I do not agree with this as many young people listen to music such as rap which glorifies things like violence but they do not commit violent acts such as shooting up a school and rap is the most listened to genre of music nowadays but there aren't violent acts committed by young people which shows how external factors come in to play when arguing if the media does influence people. This can be shown in the 2012 Aurora shooting when there was a mass-shooting in a cinema playing the Dark Knight Rises which the media blamed on for the shooting but the Dark Knight Rises doesn't condone mass-shooting and external factors such as the man who committed the act had a history of mental health problems aren't expressed on. The shooting took place in Colorado, the same state in which the Columbine shooting occurred meaning things like tighter gun control could be brought into the argument showing how the media shouldn't be solely blamed on things such as mass-shootings when there are more prominent factors such as mental health, gun control, environment of American schools which are not talked about showing how the media is usually blamed on as it is easily accessible and is starting to become prominent and important in our society making it easy for people to use it as a scapegoat.
