Genre

Genre 1) What example is provided of why visual iconographies are so important? An example of this is James Bond as the franchise and character has visual iconographies that people are able to recognise and associate it back to the movie. An example of this is James Bond wearing suit and tie and the Aston Martin and gadgets that he uses in order to achieve his mission which is what the movie is based on. 2) What examples are provided of the importance of narrative in identifying genre? In each genre there are things that are synonymous with the genre and if people were to see it, it    would make them understand what type of genre the movie falls under in.  For example, if people were to see images of creepy monsters or objects,   they would link this to horror and  also things    such as dark colours like red and black and props such as knives, chainsaws and machetes. These all create the idea of fear, violence and terror which are themes that are prominent in that

Narrative

Narrative In John Wick the equilibrium is the the him living in peace and without hardship after his dead wife gets him a puppy that reminds him of her therefore preventing him from feeling sad and gloomy. The disequilibrium is when the Slavic group of people he had a row with attack him and his puppy. The new equilibrium is when he kills the Slavic group. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGte6Qf7Exw In this scene of episode 1 of  Game of  Thrones, the setting is based on medieval times which is shown by the furniture and the way the people within the scene dress and talk. The characters in shown are Ned Stark, the main character of that season and his wife and servant who bears him news. The plot is shown in this scene after Ned finds out who is responsible for the fall of his son which in turn makes him set out to the Capital. These three characters fit Propp's hero character role. This is an example of binary opposition as Batman and The J

Semiotics

Semiotics: icon, index and symbol Icon:      Index: Symbol:         Icons and indexes are important in media texts as they are something that people are able to easy recognise. Global brands avoid symbols as might have a different meaning or interpretation in different countries or areas so therefore it might be good with customers from one area in the world but could be seen as offensive in another part of the world therefore causing those customers to be alienated and offended at the brand therefore harming the brands reputation and might cause negative brand association. This advert tried using the icon of a baby to create the idea that they have young customers which makes people think that the business is successful. However, if someone wasn't aware of the 7-up t would create the idea that the advert is promoting under-age drinking which is a harmful and destructive action. This advert uses the icon of a rock and a pillow to promote th

Reception Theory

Reception Theory Dominant Reading: The dominant reading of the image is an advertisement that promotes Reebok trainers that are endorsed by 50 cent.  Negotiated Reading: The negotiated reading of the image is that it creates the idea of no matter what background you are from, as log as you are able to take a chance, that allows you to be one step closer to success. This is further proven by 50 cent being a person from a tough background however he is now successful and that quote by 50 cent in the advertisement encapsulates his rise to success. Furthermore, 50 cent is famous with some teenagers/young adults looking up to him so if they see 50 cent endorsing a pair of trainers they are more likely to buy it but not only that but with 50 cent endorsing the product it creates the idea of success and self-drive to the viewer. Oppositional Reading: The oppositional reading of the image could lead to viewers thinking of badly of Reebok  and the trainers because 50 cent ha

Film Poster analysis

Image
Film Poster analysis: Blade Runner: This film falls under the Sci-fi genre due to the futuristic buildings shown in the poster. Furthermore, the man in the poster who is the main character is holding a gun which could mean they are violent aspects depicted in the movie as well. Also, the light radiating from behind the man shows that he is the hero of the story and the character that we are meant to root for as the movie progresses. Although the man is placed in a bright background meaning that he is a good and virtuous character however he is holding a gun leading to him possibly having violent tendencies or good at using weapons. Next to the man, is a woman who is holding a lit cigarette and is smaller than next to the man in the poster which means that she could be a supporting character who aids the man in achieving his goal? However, unlike the man in the poster who has a bright background, she is in a dark background meaning that she could possibly be a villain or have a
