The decline of print media

The decline of print media

1) Google has lead to the decline of the newspaper industry by taking billions of ad revenue from newspapers.

2) Newspaper companies made about $60 billion and Google took around $44 billion.

3) The 2000's.

4) No, I think that newspapers are a dying industry and Google is no way the cause of it. I would say younger people such as millennials or even generation z aren't really interested in buying newspapers as it is much easier to view a news on the internet rather than buying it physically. This obviously makes it hard for newspapers as they probably depend or even view their websites as one of the ways of protecting their industry and Google taking some of the advertising revenue is what should be expected of such a large and powerful company as it even does this to YouTube creator or content uploaders, many of are have ties to Hollywood.

5) "You can’t single out Google just because it’s the largest digital company. Patch, for example, invested hundreds of millions into journalism in the US and continues to search for the model that will work going forward. There are many who are investing in the future of journalism."

I agree with this comment as even though Google is the largest digital companies and has a very powerful influence over many industries, it shouldn't be blamed as this is what any large conglomerate would probably do.

"Obviously, Google is not to blame. I don’t think it’s about blame. I think the Internet is incredibly poorly designed. Rather than being free, everything on it should cost something in order to compensate creators. "

I do not agree with this comment as one of the reasons why the Internet is one of the most influential inventions of all time is because a large quantity of the world's population is able to access it. Although, it might be a disadvantage to businesses on the internet as they aren't able to gain all of the ad revenue, Google and the Internet has allowed a large amount of people to come across that business which benefits the company as it allows them to be bigger. If they were to be a paywall on a website, it would probably prevent a large amount of people on accessing the Internet or even those individual websites. This might even prove annoying when simple things to view such as the news or articles might have a pay wall.
